Designing Demand is helping businesses increase profits, sales and market share by using design

Designing Demand boosts performance, speeds up growth and improves the bottom line by putting design at the centre of business strategy.

What is Designing Demand?
It's a compelling package of business support from the Design Council. It helps businesses discover how to become more innovative, more competitive and more profitable. It does it by giving managers the skills to exploit design by spotting opportunities, briefing designers and running projects that deliver.

How does it work?

First, one-day workshops show managers and business advisors how good design makes money. Using the unique Matchbox tool, they show how design fits into business planning to get results.
Then, intensive services bring top-level expertise direct to the boardroom to find opportunities and work on projects.
Management teams get hands-on support and mentoring from Design Associates, Design Council approved experts selected for their outstanding track record solving business problems with global brands from Virgin Atlantic and Proctor & Gamble to BT and Unilever.

What does Designing Demand cost and how much time does it take?

Workshops, services and up to five days' Design Associate support are funded by the programme. The only direct cost is design consultancy fees. Each design project is different, but as a general guide businesses have seen substantial returns on design investments between £5000 and £14000.

Who’s behind Designing Demand?

Developed by the Design Council and delivered by Regional Development Agencies, the programme is part of the government's competitiveness strategy.

Where is it available?

The programme is running in Yorkshire, the South East, West Midlands, South West, North East and London. Other regions will follow soon.
